United Way of Kosciusko County Program Funding Process

When the community fund drive is completed; the next step is to decide where those dollars will best fit and what can be accomplished with the investments. Agencies then submit “request for funding packets” to the United Way, for available investment dollars, for each program. Agency packets contain details such as: specific program information, budgets, community issues being addressed and their program's outcomes.

The United Way invests dollars through a process using Vision Councils to assess need in 3 focus impact areas. Vision Council areas are: Education, Income and Health. Each Vision Council has a minimum of 6 members made up of volunteers and issue-experts for that area. The Vision Councils review the agency’s requests, and hold a review session to better understand the need and asses how the program is currently functioning.

After the programs are reviewed, the three Vision Councils present their recommendations for funding to the Community Impact Committee. This committee reviews all requests and suggested program investments; then submits their proposal to the United Way Board of Directors for final approval. The Board of Directors approves the investment disbursements and notifies the agencies which programs will be funded for the next year. This system of review assures donors their gifts are being used effectively and efficiently.  It holds the United Way of Kosciusko County and its partner programs accountable to the donors that support us.
